Big changes have arrived for one of WEDC’s most popular incentive programs that helps businesses locate or expand in Wisconsin.

M7, MMAC, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and gener8tor hosted dozens of ambassadors from around the globe, along with corporate leaders from around the region, for breakfast and a program focused on the benefits of corporate investment in southeastern Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub, led by BioForward Wisconsin, achieves a significant milestone as a Phase 2 recipient of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) Regional Technology and Innovations Hub (Tech Hub) program, affirming Wisconsin’s leadership in biohealth technology and personalized medicine.

Milwaukee features some of the lowest living wages, rental costs and unemployment rates among adults ages 16 to 19. It also offers a large selection of nearby colleges, including three schools within one mile.

Just hours after plans were announced for Microsoft to spend $3.3 billion to build an artificial intelligence data center campus in Mount Pleasant, the company’s president talked about the impact the project will have on the state’s economy.

“We are going to be building among the world’s most advanced AI and cloud data centers that you will see anywhere,” said Brad Smith, vice chair and president of Microsoft.

In a planned succession, MMAC President Dale Kooyenga announced Rebecca Gries will take over as Milwaukee 7’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Attraction and Expansion. She will succeed longtime M7 Senior Vice President and Executive Director Jim Paetsch who has announced his retirement.

The Biden administration selected Wisconsin from a pool of a few hundred last October, awarding it designation as one of 31 regional “tech hubs.” Submitted by a consortium of biohealth businesses, colleges and economic development agencies, Wisconsin’s successful application focused on the Madison and Milwaukee-Waukesha regions as hotbeds
